Two people were rescued by the Irish Coast Guard this morning after getting into difficulty while swimming at a popular Dublin bathing spot

The two swimmers were brought to safety earlier today at the Forty Foot in Dún Laoghaire.

The operation involved the Rescue 116 helicopter and the Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard unit, including a lifeboat, and the attendance of emergency services.

However, the swimmers were not injured in the incident.

A garda spokesperson said: "The Coast Guard carried out an operation to rescue two swimmers who had gotten into difficulty swimming at the Forty Foot earlier today.

"A Garda Patrol attended the area to advise swimmers of potential hazard due to unfavourable swimming conditions."

The Coast Guard also issued a warning to people that strong winds and high tides were making conditions very difficult for swimmers.
