Two men are due in court this morning in connection with the seizure of a loaded revolver in Dublin.
Gardaí believe they foiled an attempted hit.
The gun was discovered during an operation in Tallaght on Tuesday. A vehicle with false number plates was also seized.
Follow up operations were conducted as part of the investigation, including searches of premises.
Two men, aged 51 and 22, were arrested. Both are expected to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court this morning.
Gardaí believe they intervened in a threat to life situation "that was likely to result in the death of at least one person".
