Two men have been found dead in the Grand Canal near Charlemont.
Shortly after 8 o'clock this morning, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a body in the canal close to the Charlemont area.
The bodies of two men, aged in their 40s, were recovered shortly after and pronounced dead at the scene.
A large Garda presence remains in the area this morning, with the fire brigade also lending a hand.
A cordon has been set up, and both the office of the state pathologist and the local coroner have been notified.
Gardaí say the results of a post mortem and local enquiries will determine the course of their investigation.
Both of the men have been identified, but not formally.
