Two men have been arrested after a mini bus was stolen at Dublin airport with three passengers on-board.

The bus took off in the direction of the M1 shortly before 1am this morning.

The passengers were allowed to leave the bus unharmed a short time later near Julianstown.

The bus continued north on the M1 until it was located near Drogheda and followed by Garda units before it crossed the border north of Dundalk. The PSNI were then alerted.

It was located again a short time later having traveled back into the republic at Co. Monaghan and was followed by Gardaí before it was crashed and abandoned.

The two occupants fled on foot and then stole a parked car which was intercepted by armed Gardaí, with the help of the Air Support unit, near Castleblayney.

Two men in their 30s were arrested and are being held at Carrickmacross Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Investigations are ongoing.
