Two Arrested After Limerick Gardai Break Up N24 Sulky Race

Gardaí have arrested two men after a sulky race was broken up.

It happened on the main Limerick to Tipperary Road in County Limerick.

A pair of cars took off at high speed when a Garda patrol discovered a group of vehicles.

That was on the N24 just after 8am.

Gardaí followed them and found them soon after in Caherconlish.

That's where officers arrested two men in their thirties.

Gardaí brought them to Roxboro Road Garda Station.

Where they are being kept under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Limerick Superintendent Warns Sulky Racing Is 'Illegal And Dangerous

Superintendent Dermot O'Connor from Roxboro Garda Station says:

"Gardaí in Limerick city have been particularly vigilant in relation to horses not being kept under proper control or where they are being neglected or mistreated.

"Sulky racing on a public road is illegal and is dangerous to all road users and can put the horses under tremendous strain."

"Gardaí will investigate all incidents of endangerment, illegal sulky racing and where animals are being mistreated”
