The Australian remake of The Office has landed on our TV screens, and the reception is mixed.

If you were going by the reviews from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, you would think the show was a complete dud, scoring 32% days after landing on streaming platforms.

One audience reviewer wrote: "Quite simply... it's not funny. The writing is dull and storylines are plain boring. No chemistry between cast. Awful."

Another reviewer wrote: "Lifeless and unfunny. Even the opening titles are dull. The only character with any energy is Hannah, the manager and she’s just an unfunny rip of Michael Scott. There’s a discussion to be had whether the UK or the US version is better, but one thing is for certain. They’re both better than this."

However the Australian remake of Ricky Gervais’s sitcom has received some positive reviews from critics.

Compared to the audience reviews, the critics have the show scoring at 80%.

One critic wrote: "It might jar at first, but stick with it; it's genuinely funny. It's not groundbreaking, but it was never intended to be."

"It’s competently made, mostly well-acted, and some of the gags land," another critic wrote.

More positive... but not exactly the glowing reviews they were probably hoping for!

Season 1 of the Australian remake of The Office is available to stream on Prime Video.
