Vying for the Glitterball trophy
Strictly Come Dancing have announced the first contestants taking to the dancefloor later this year.
Actor Will Mellor shared the news on BBC Breakfast, with the new Strictly star admitting his latest venture is "little out of my comfort zone".
Mellor explained how losing his dad in 2020 has motivated him to "grab life and create new memories".
The actor starred alongside Sheridan Smith as Gaz in cult Noughties sitcom Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, as well as Line Of Duty and Broadchurch.
He joined the cast of ITV soap Coronation Street in 2021 as "out-and-out baddie" drugs lord Harvey, and also starred in Hollyoaks in the early days of his career.
Mellor said: "I'm honestly so chuffed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this year!"
Kym Marsh has also been confirmed for the brand new series.
Marsh said: “I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out. I’m so delighted that this year they have!
"I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!”
Marsh is best known for her role of Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, for which she won ‘Best Newcomer’ at both the National Television Awards and British Soap Awards.
She also had a successful music career, both in the band Hear’Say, which she won a place in after appearing on the show Popstars.
