We love to get this behind the scenes gossip!

Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy are reminiscing on their Late Late Show presenting days, and revealed what they both disliked about doing the show.

Pat Kenny recently appeared on Ryan Tubridy’s podcast The Bookshelf and reflected on his time hosting the long-running talk show.

“I was told by Gay, ‘One For Everyone In the Audience,’ is a tyranny,” Pat told Ryan when he first took over from the OG presenter Gay Byrne.

“That they were scratching around for stuff every week to give away.”

“That people would come along and you’d have a brilliant cast list but have a bottle of Coca-Cola and a pack of Tayto to give away – and people would say ‘Is that all? Is that all you have for us?'”

He went on to explain 'one for everyone in the audience' became a feature for just the Toy Show.

“You’re given the most sparkling lineup of guests,” Pat continued, “Another week you’d have a dud list of guest but everyone would get a television set or something and they’d all be delighted.”

“It was a tyranny, so we dropped it except for the Toy Show.”

Pat Kenny hosted The Late Late Show from 1999 to 2009 with Ryan Tubridy taking over the reigns until he stepped down in 2023.

Ryan Tubridy was swept up in a storm of controversy last year when it was revealed his RTÉ salary had been understated by €345k over six years.

This led to the presenter signing off from The Late Late Show after 14 years – with Patrick Kielty taking over.
