A great series though it has to be said!
After a running since the beginning of January, last night saw the conclusion of Dancing With The Stars on RTÉ One.
The grand finale saw Carl Mullan, Suzanne Jackson Brooke Scullion, and Damien McGinty compete for the glitterball trophy - but only one could come out on top.
At the end of it all 2FM breakfast presenter Carl Mullan and his dance partner Emily Barker were crowned the winners.
Contrary to the voting system in the last few weeks of the show running, the vote for the overall winner was down entirely to the audience. So while the pressure was on for them to perform their dances perfectly, the judges had no say in the final vote.
The standard was high and the competition was tough but Carl Mullan came out the firm favourite at the end.
Speaking in interviews immediately after the winner, Carl seemed to be completely in shock.
"Thank you so much for all the love and support online and in the streets" he said after thanking his wife Aisling and his family for being his "rock" throughout the series.
While Carl was immensely popular (and that shows in the final vote!) there was undoubtedly some people online who weren't too happy with the result.
Some complained that the show has been reduced to a "popularity contest" rather than being based on the contestant's genuine dancing abilities.
When @Brooke_Scullion is robbed of a Eurovision final and a #dwtsirl win all within a year 😭so undeserved

Meanwhile there was plenty of support for Carl Mullan online too, with many recognising that he was the most improved dancer of the series.
Laughing at all the #dwtsirl tweets. People shocked and outraged that the best person didn't win & that it's a popularity show. Have you not seen it the last few years. It has always been that way 😂 carl improved alot over the 11 weeks. Congrats #CarlandEmily

A lot of kids were voting for Carl in fairness so I’m not shocked he won, he’s also a complete dote & had the typical winners “journey” #dwtsirl

I love Carl and he’s got fantastic energy and improvement but as an all rounder for what I thought should’ve taken the trophy I think there was definitely others ahead of it. Still a great series and roll on next year, hopefully. #DWTSIRL ✨🏆

We're with Paul, we think after this year there should definitely be another series!
