Calling all Sons of Anarchy fans! A spin-off show is definitely in the works. A clip premiered this week on a reel for FX's new streaming service, FX+.
The hit drama, which starred Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal and Ron Pearlman, aired from 2008-2014 and followed an outlaw motorcycle club called SAMCRO.
The new series - titled Mayans MC - is set to focus on SAMCRO’s rivals, the Mayans, and will pick after the events of the Sons of Anarchy finale.
Speaking to TV Guide during the panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday, FX president, John Landgraf said:
“It’s a good sign. I’m really excited about where we are in the process of Mayans."
“I’m very confident about the future of that spin-off.”
TV Guide reports that Mayans MC will follow a young club prospect named EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) and will also star Edward James Olmos.
Last year, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter spoke about the spin-off saying it would be a “contemporary piece” set “far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn’t step on the mythology that’s already been told”.
“It doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. [But] I wouldn’t want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that", Sutter added,
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt was also previously linked to a rumoured Sons of Anarchy prequel, which Charlie Hunnam said he would "love to see" happen.
