It’s a reality show crossover!
It’s that time of year again, where we’re prepared to spend our summer evenings on the sofa watching a bunch of young people on TV flirt with each other in Spain.
Love Island returned to screens on Monday night, with 10 new singletons entering the villa in the hopes of finding a brand deal - *ahem* - sorry we mean love!
The popular dating show is now in its 11th season and promised that a “big twist” was coming in the first episode to keep the format fresh.
And deliver a big twist they did!

At the end of the episode once all the new contestants were coupled up, none other than Joey Essex showed up.
It’s the first time the show have brought an existing celebrity in as a contestant.
The Only Way Is Essex star came in after all the islanders were coupled up so now it’s his job to “step on toes” as they say on the show.
Earlier in the episode the new contestants were asked to rank the opposite sex on most boyfriend/girlfriend material to least.

Then, in a new twist on the format, they coupled up the contestants based on the results:
So the first Love Island couples of summer 2024 are:
• Mimii & Munveer (both voted most relationship material)
• Nicole & Sean
• Jess & Ronnie
• Patsy & Ayo
• Samantha & Sam
• Harriet & Ciaran (both voted least relationship material)
That is until Joey Essex comes in and ruffles some feathers!
Love Island continues tonight on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Player at 9 o’clock.
