Irish Rail's defended its capacity for bikes after an open letter called for more room on inter city trains.
Journalist Andy Pollock wrote the note, complaining just two bike spots are available on most services.
He says it has to be booked a long time in advance to make sure the space is secured.
Spokesperson Barry Kenny, says a recent European Cyclist Federation study shows Irish Rail ranks relatively well for cyclists:
"They found that out of 68 Intercity Rail Operators around Europe that we were 11th. Now that's not simply on bike spaces, but we do score reasonably well on bike spaces. It's also a fact that booking bikes is free of charge on our services, whereas on many European rail operators there's a charge involved aswell."
