The Late Late Show is more iconic than you might realise!

Patrick Kielty is back hosting the show every Friday night on RTÉ One, so our Showbiz Shannon went to catch up with him to see how he's feeling ahead of the new season.

The Down native wasn't giving too much away about what we can expect from the new season but promises that there'll be "lots of surprises in store".

He also spoke about a surprise encounter he had at the Vatican during that trip where a number of comedians were invited to come and meet the Pope.

The chat show host recalled talking to a woman who introduced him to her brother who so happened to be the host of another Late Show, Stephen Colbert.

Kielty said that he went to introduce himself to Colbert, only for the famous presenter to recognise him first.

"The show punches far above its weight" Kielty concluded, speaking on how well-known The Late Late Show is around the world.

The Late Late Show holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest running chat show in the world, as it's been broadcasting since the summer of 1962.

It also achieved a second world record earlier this year, when RTÉ held the largest céilí session in Croke Park.

Taking place on the St Patrick’s Day Late Late, some 384 musicians played on the night.

The Late Late Show returns weekly to RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player on Friday 13th of September at 9.35pm.
