Dublin City Council's been prevented from going ahead with the Strand Road Trial Cycle Route Scheme in Sandymount in Dublin.

The Serpentine Avenue, Tritonville and Claremont Roads local residents group has welcomed today's High Court decision.

It also means the closure of the north bound traffic lane on Strand Road won't happen.

The proposed scheme would have led to major changes to traffic patterns in the Sandymount and wider areas.

The STC residents group says it would have eliminated north-bound traffic on Strand and Beach Road, with serious implications for residents, businesses, schools and sports clubs in the Dublin 4 area.

An STC Group spokesperson says "Local residents welcome this decision. We now urge Dublin City Council to invest effort into putting in place an off-road cycle track of the type envisaged by the original Sutton to Sandycove cycleway proposal which has been in existence for many years."

The Dublin Cycling Campaign and Dublin Commuter Coalition are both disappointed with the High Court decision.
