Lyrid Meteor Shower
The Lyrid meteor shower is set to dance across the skies tomorrow and should be visible from Ireland!
Stargazers are in for the treat as we likely will be able to see up to 20 'fiery streaks' an hour.
The shower actually began on 13th April and will run until 27th.
However, the peak is expected in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
NASA have advised we look to the skies just before dawn, so the moonlight doesn't obscure the view.
Darkest areas are best, so try to move away from city lights. Think the Phoenix Park, the beach, or maybe venture up to Howth Head (carefully)!
NASA offered the following viewing tips:
The Lyrids are best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere during the dark hours (after moonset and before dawn). Find an area well away from city or street lights. Come prepared with a sleeping bag, blanket or lawn chair. Lie flat on your back with your feet facing east and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. After about 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors. Be patient—the show will last until dawn, so you have plenty of time to catch a glimpse.
Enjoy!
