Gardai have searched ten homes in Lucan and the North Inner City as part of an investigation into a taxi driving scam.

It found 134 non-EU nationals living here illegally managed to get taxi licences using fake documents.

Of those 134, two have been deported and another 55 are due to be sent home.

President of the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation Joe Heron believes eligibility rules need to be tightened.

"Nobody should get a licence to drive a taxi unless they have been in this country for a minimum of five years", he said.

He also said those applying for a taxi licence should "also be citizens of Ireland".

"That is the only way you have any chance of knowing they are genuine", he claimed.

Gardai say Operation Vantage is an ongoing investigation.

Under it, 15 people are being investigated for having marriages of convenience.
