Roy Keane believes Liverpool will never be successful as long as their team is made up of players who can’t defend.

The Reds surrendered a 3-0 lead in the Champions League on Tuesday night as they were held 3-3 by Sevilla FC.

The former Manchester United captain says Alberto Moreno is a huge part of the problem at Liverpool after his actions led to the concession of two goals on Tuesday night.

Wissam Ben Yedder’s goal started the unlikeliest of comebacks when he made it 3-1 after Moreno gave away a free-kick.

The Spanish defender then gifted the home side a penalty by clipping Ben Yedder in the box, the comeback was completed in stoppage time when Guido Pizarro scored an injury-time equaliser to snatch a draw.

Speaking on ITV’s Champions League highlights show, Keane said Moreno was more of hindrance than a help for Liverpool:

“What he's doing for the penalty, you wouldn't see a child doing it. It's pure madness for an international player to do that.

“You look at the free-kick he gave away, that's nothing to do with the manager. This has nothing to do with team shape or mentality.

“I know it's a team game, but sometimes you have to point the finger and say "you're killing us, you're costing us.

“Liverpool will win a lot of football matches, but when it comes to the big games they're going to come up short because they've got a couple of defenders who just aren't good enough and they'll always get found out.”
