Telegraph Boxing correspondent Gareth A.Davies joined OTB AM to speak with Ger Gilroy and Eoin Sheahan about the fight between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin in September.

Gareth spoke about the consequences of drugs in the sport and the effects they could have.

“At some point and I hope it never happens but I think at some point, someone is going to be irreparably damaged - maybe brain damaged, maybe needing an operation. I hope not to be tragically killed in a ring.

Povetkin has been embroiled in a drugs controversy having tested positive in two drugs tests.

“And if a boxer or MMA fighter tests positive, or the opponent tests positive for a banned substance, afterwards or in the build up, but it comes out in the aftermath, are we looking at manslaughter then? These are the issues we’re dealing with,", he said.

“It is not jumping over hurdles; it’s not running a hundred metres quicker than another man or woman. It is punching someone, as you say, to render them unconscious.

“You can legally die in a combat arena. That’s the seriousness of the issue that we are facing when someone tests positive for a banned substance. It enhances their weapon, which is themselves."
