FIFA have revealed that the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals will most likely be held in winter.
A meeting has been taking place at the governing body's HQ in Zurich after which, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke released a statement to say, "We are getting closer to narrowing the dates for the FIFA World Cup to two options - January/February 2022 or November/December 2022 - but FIFA has also been asked to consider May 2022.
"We will summarise what we've heard today and provide feedback to all parties in order for them to prepare for the next meeting as we progress towards a final decision."
European clubs, including the Premier League, had been pushing for an April-May tournament but a majority were in favour of either a January-February or November-December date.
No final decision has been made just yet but another option has also been proposed: namely, playing all matches in the middle of the night. This would solve the temperature issue and would allow fans in this part of the world enjoy evening kick-off times.
