The man who changed the game though came agonisingly close to winning the tournament, but in the end just missed out.
The 14 time major winner was unable to complete his remarkable comeback by winning his first major title since 2008 after finishing runner up to Brooks Koepka at the PGA Championship
On 16 under par, Koepka claimed the crown as he landed his second major of 2018, Woods was two shots back. Shane Lowry claimed a share of 12th place on 6 under. Rory McIlroy finished on 2 under.
Koepka held off superb challenges from Woods and Adam Scott to clinch the PGA Championship.

The double US Open champion and Scott were tied for the lead with four holes remaining
With Tiger on the prowl just one behind at one stage, Koepka holed birdies on 15 and 16 and held on to win by a two-shot margin.
Woods struggled in the build up to the tournament - he was taking 3 ice baths a day to deal with inflammation.
The American admits even he was shocked to be in the mix: "I didn't know what my schedule would be, how many tournaments I would play this year or if I would even play, so each tournament brought about its own challenges," he added.
"And so at the beginning of the year, if you said I would have a legitimate chance to win the last two major championships?
"I didn't have a swing at the time, I had no speed and my short game wasn't quite there yet. My putting was okay, but I hadn't played in two years. So it's been a hell of a process for sure.
"I was in contention in the last two majors and would never have foreseen that a year ago, so I'm just so thankful to be here.
"I'm just very pleased at what I've done so far and now to be part of the Ryder Cup conversation, going from where I've come from to now in the last year, it's been pretty cool."
