Before Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012, London was one of those major European capital cities that had never seen tasted glory in European football's premier club competition.

The likes of Berlin, Rome and Paris remain in that boat, although Paris Saint-Germain's vast spending power means that could change sooner rather than later.

Similarly, Moscow might tend to dominate Russian football but has only rarely made a meaningful impact at a continental level, namely when CSKA Moscow won the old UEFA Cup.

This week on Team 33, I was joined by Capital FM Moscow's Irish presenter Alan Moore to get an insight into the major and minor clubs that make up the Russian capital's footballing landscape.

From Spartak Moscow who dominated the first decade of the Russian Premier League to CSKA, Dynamo and Lokomotiv  who were previously owned by the army, interior ministry and railways respectively during the Soviet era and in some cases, partly to this day, Alan gave us a crash course into those clubs as well as former big names likes Torpedo Moscow who have fallen by the wayside.
