Wayne Rooney produced a man of the match performance for Manchester United in their crucial 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Champions League last night. Alex Ferguson was present as Rooney slalomed through the visitors' defence in the second minute which proved to be the winning goal - it was turned into his own net by Inigo Martinez. Rooney's display was only twenty-four hours after Ferguson had laid bare his fitness concerns for the England striker.
Sergio Aguero scored twice in Russia to push Manchester City towards the knockout stages with a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow. The Argentinian continued his fine form of late with a quickfire double to settle a tricky Group D encounter after former Manchester United player Zoran Tosic opened the scoring. Despite coping well with the much-criticised Khimki Arena pitch, City squandered a number of chances to make the game safe and were left hanging on, with Joe Hart saving saving from Keisuke Honda at the death.
