Dubliners Brian Gregan and Mick Clohisey have both been included in the squad that will represent Ireland at next month's World Athletics Championships.

Clonliffe Harriers club man Gregan will race in the men's 400 metres while Clohisey of Raheny Shamrocks will go in the men's marathon.

Joining Clohisey in that race will be Rathfarnaham WSAF's Sean Hehir who hails from Clare and Paul Pollock while in the women's marathon Claire McCarthy will fly the Irish flag.

There are three race walkers chosen for the London event; world 50k champion Rob Heffernan, Brendan Boyce (50k) and Alex Wright who will go in both the 20k and 50k.

Also included in the 11-strong Irish squad is Thomas Barr, who will be looking to build on his fourth place finish in the Rio Olympics 400m hurdles and European bronze medal winners Ciara Mageean (1500m) and Mark English (800m).

The 10-day event is being staged at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and gets underway on August 4.
