TJ Doheny calls on Eddie Hearn to make Danny Roman rematch

TJ Doheny says he's ready for an IBF super-bantamweight championship rematch with Danny Roman.

The Portlaoise southpaw took his professional record to 22 wins from 23 fights with a sixth-round stoppage victory over Jesus Martinez in Chicago last weekend.

It was Doheny's first bout since losing his title to Roman in a thriller in April and the 32-year-old is calling on promoter Eddie Hearn to set up a rematch:

"Please God that fight will happen as soon as it can be made," 'The Power' told IFL TV.

"My management knew I needed this little hit-out and I needed to shake off the loss, we're back to winning ways now and we're happy.

"Now I can look at positioning myself for a decent fight, if it takes time we might have to go for another hit-out just to keep busy and to keep myself active but what I'm hoping for now is an eliminator or a title shot. I'm not dumb and I know it could take a bit of time so we'll see what happens.

"Danny's a man - he said he'd give me the rematch - I'm sure he's a man of his word," he added.

"I think he has to go for Roman but there are potential fights at featherweight...Ryan Burnett needs a dance partner and I'm not sure what his future holds," The Sun's Kevin Byrne suggested on Off The Brawl.

"I wouldn't like to see him move up to featherweight though because he has advantages at super-bantamweight. We saw what happened with Frampton stopped knocking out people out when he moved up in weight - if TJ can make the weight he should stay where he's good and hurting people."
