Tiger Woods has confirmed that he's withdrawn from next week's Players' Championship as he continues to recover from an ongoing back injury.

The 15-time major champion, who has twice won at Sawgrass, informed PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan of the decision on Friday evening.

Woods had already opted to sit out this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational due to "back stiffness" with his agent Mark Steinberg telling Golf Digest that the reigning Masters' champion's "back (is) just not ready. Nothing concerning, just not ready."

The former world number one then confirmed the news in a statement on social media last night:

"It was not an easy decision, but I will not be attending @THEPLAYERSChamp. I have to listen to my body and properly rest when needed. My back is simply just not ready for play next week. I'm sad to miss one of the best events of the season, OUR Championship."
