A few weeks ago, Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry was linked with the Aston Villa job even though there was no vacancy.

However, the former Belgium assistant coach is now moving closer to potentially taking over at Ligue 1 side Girondins de Bordeaux, who sacked ex-Chelsea player and Brighton manager Gus Poyet after falling out over transfer policy.

Former Sky Sports football pundit Henry has held talks with the Bordeaux hierarchy and has been installed as favourite to replace Poyet and also join former Arsenal and France team-mate Patrick Vieira - now manager of Nice - on the Ligue 1 coaching ladder.

We were joined by Jean Philippe LeClaire, editor in chief of French sports L'Equipe to discuss the situation and what Henry can expect should he get the job.

"There is an air of excitement around Henry in France because you have to realise one year ago there were the transfers of Neymar and then Mbappe to Paris Saint Germain, so there was a lot of excitement and this summer, the transfer market is very, very quiet," he said.

You can watch the Football Show on YouTube including the full chat on Thierry Henry to Bordeaux:

"But it's going to be complicated because as you may be aware, the M6 group who is owning now Girondins de Bordeaux are in the process of selling [the club] to a US-based investment fund called General American Capital Partners and so to hire Henry, you have to have the ex-owners and the future owners to ratify the process and what we know for sure is that Henry is interested by the job but now we are entering a process of discussion between Henry and two owners really. So it may take time."

On Henry's interest, LeClaire described the former Arsenal captain as a true lover of the game but that the "big question mark is how he's going to deal with players who are not as talented as he was and not devoted to the game as he was", although reports from the Belgium camp suggested he dealt well with what was albeit a talented group of internationals.
