On Sunday, the Dublin senior football team extended their recent dominance of the All Ireland Championship to a fourth title in a row and a sixth since 2011 when they ended 16 years of hurt.
It's a stellar achievement for this crop of player and a rise that can be attributed to more than just money and population, although those issues are certainly significant factors in putting the Dubs at the top of the Gaelic football tree. But the worry from many quarters is that this dominance will be extended and become the natural order of things for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, in soccer, the Bundesliga has seen Bayern Munich win the last six league titles, Serie A has experienced seven straight seasons of Juventus title wins (even if Napoli did run them closer than anyone had for some time last season) and but for Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone inspired elevation, La Liga had increasingly become a two-team league. That's not to mention the Scottish Premiership where Celtic now reign supreme or the Premier League where (the Leicester City season aside), you can almost bracket off the Top 6 in a different section. Finances are one of the key things that separate the elite from the rest.
But what is the effect of that sort of dominance by a single or small pool of teams on supporter interest levels? And should sporting bodies be intervening or interfering (depending on your point of view) to bring about more equality between teams?
