Tadhg de Búrca has failed in his efforts to overturn the red card which ended his involvement in Waterford's All Ireland hurling quarter-final win over Wexford.
The defender may not be done the fight and could take his case to the Disputes Resolution Authority, after failing to convince the Central Appeals Committee to overturn the suspension on Thursday night.
The Deise face Cork in the All Ireland hurling semi-final at Croke Park next Sunday.
Waterford manager Derek McGrath has stated that they would explore all available options to get the ban thrown out.
De Búrca was sent off in the closing stages of the game after appearing to grab the helmet of Harry Kehoe off the ball.
