Conor Wickham opened the scoring with a smart header after 26 minutes.
Fabio Borini added a second from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time. Juan Cala received a red card in the build up for pulling back Wickham who was through on goal.
Emanuele Giaccherini added a third with a low drive after 76 minutes to wrap up the points.
Conor Wickham added a bit of gloss to the result as he headed his fifth goal in three games.
Cardiff meanwhile, drop to the bottom of the Premier League table.
