Tim Clancy has been appointed the new head coach at St. Patrick's Athletic.

He's left Drogheda United after four seasons, having led them back to the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Clancy will replace FAI Cup-winning head coach Stephen O'Donnell, who's set to fill the managerial vacancy at Dundalk.

There was no mention of O'Donnell in their announcement of Clancy's appointment on a two-year contract.

"I am delighted to join the management team at a massive club like St Patrick's Athletic and looking forward to helping the club to achieve its great ambitions," Clancy said.

"It was a difficult decision to leave Drogheda United and I am eternally grateful to them for giving me my first opportunity in management."

It's believed that Pat's have paid Drogheda a compensation package worth €10,000.

Clancy's position has been filled by his assistant at Head In The Game Park - Kevin Doherty.

Drogs chairman Conor Hoey said, "“We wish Tim well as he moves on to pastures new and thank him for all that he achieved at Drogheda United.

"I would also like to say thank you to St Patrick’s Athletic for the professional and courteous manner in which they have acted in relation to Tim’s departure from Drogheda United.”

Doherty's signed a three-year deal with Drogheda, and will be assisted by Daire Doyle.

"I’m delighted to become the manager of this fantastic football club," said Doherty, "I’ve really enjoyed working with Tim over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to build upon the great work that we have done together.

"I’m also thrilled that Daire, an ex-Drog himself, is joining me to really push the club forward.”
