Dublin City Council says they are willing to examine the idea of Shelbourne Football Club buying Tolka Park Football Stadium from the city council and redeveloping it into a multi-sport stadium.
The announcement comes after a meeting between the club's board members and representatives of the council on Friday.
A statement from the council says that after discussion they have come to an agreement in 'good faith' upon the future of the ground.
They are set to reconvene meetings when further detail has been provided by Shelbourne FC, which is expected to be received within the next two weeks.
Dublin City Council bought out the legal interests of various parties in both Dalymount, home to Bohemian FC, and Tolka Park in 2016.
This was part of a strategic plan to develop a municipal stadium at Dalymount Park to 'ensure the viability of League of Ireland Football on the northside of Dublin'.
Dublin City Council claims that since then significant costs have been incurred by them on an annual basis to ensure that both stadiums meet the required League of Ireland stadium certification.
The city council says it is willing to examine the proposal, however, it would be based on a cost-recovery model and a firm commitment must be received from Shelbourne FC that Tolka Park can be re-developed in a reasonable time period and that adequate finance is in place.
Dublin City Council says it remains committed to developing a municipal stadium at Dalymount Park.
They say they are "continuing to work with all stakeholders including both clubs, the Government and local community groups to develop a modern municipal stadium".
