Sheffield United upbeat on David McGoldrick's recovery

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expects David McGoldrick to be fit to play for the Republic of Ireland in this month's Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The striker is recovering from a hamstring injury and was not named in Mick McCarthy's squad this week ahead of the games at Georgia and Switzerland.

Wilder says the Blades are working hard to help McGoldrick get back in time to travel.

"We're in co-operation with the Republic of Ireland," Wilder said this afternoon.

"We have to do the best for Ireland and us but we think he’s going to travel with them.

"If we can get him fit for Mick we will, David wants to play for his country so we’ll give him every chance".

"He wants to play for Ireland and he’s an important part of their squad. If not, we’ll let him get ready for Arsenal after the international break.

"We’re confident that he’ll be back for that, and maybe the midweek game for the Republic. We’ll make the decision.

"In the past, he has played with injury issues and it’s important that we have a sensible approach.”
