Shane Long could miss the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier away to Austria next month.
The striker went off with an apparent hamstring injury in Southampton's 1-nil loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro yesterday in the Europa League.
It was Long’s first appearance since suffering a similar injury, in Ireland’s 3-1 World Cup qualifier win away to Moldova earlier this month.
He is expected to have a scan on the injury today.
Any Long absence would be a big blow to Martin O’Neill, who is struggling in the striker department, following the retirement of Robbie Keane earlier this year.
