Seville derby set to restart La Liga season

La Liga president Javier Tebas says a derby between Sevilla and Real Betis on June 11th is likely to be the game to restart their season.

Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez gave the official go ahead for the league to resume from June the 8th.

Tebas says they're planning for a round of fixtures on June the 12th but Betis and Sevilla will meet on the evening on the 11th.

"Our aim is to be able to announce the first four rounds of La Liga fixtures next week," he told Movistar.

"The government's announcement took us by surprise but it shows that professional football is very important to this country.

"There is a possibility that there is a game on June 11, which would be the only match that night and perhaps there will be a tribute to all the people who have died.

"I hope that date can be confirmed and we would like the game to be the Seville derby, kicking off at 10pm."

Sevilla players ver Banega, Lucas Ocampos, Franco Vazquez and Luuk de Jong have been criticised for breaking lockdown rules by attending a party and Tebas says players need to be showing a better example:

"Players are an example to society and should be careful with their actions, I call on all footballers to not act like this. We have to be very careful because a lot of people's jobs are at stake."
