Jeff Hendrick may have played his last game for Burnley with his contract situation at the club very much up in the air.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder was left out of the Clarets' 5-0 loss at Manchester City last night after turning down an offer to extend his contract.

Hendrick, who was Burnley's club record signing in 2016, current deal is set to expire next week and he's been linked with a move to AC Milan this summer.

"I don't know, I'm not informed on where it's all at, I really don't know. I am waiting on news," Burnley boss Sean Dyche said when asked about whether a deal can still be reached to keep Hendrick at Turf Moor.

"The contract situation is just the club decided to offer monthly contracts very late in the day, and haven't cleared up Jeff Hendrick's contract situation, so those players had to make a choice, and their choice is not to be involved.

"We are in incredible financial shape, so there is a balance, we are a club that has been run very well financially down the years I've been here, and that's allowed us to come through this period without any questions.

"There's certainly not a question financially, but, decisions have to be made. I can only advise, as I have done, and the chairman decided to make different decisions if you like.”

The Irish Independent's Dan McDonnell thinks a move to Serie A is a great option for Hendrick
