Joe Schmidt's latest injury concern is sticking out like a sore thumb...literally!
The Irish coach revealed today that Jonny Sexton returned to Racing Metro with his hand in a splint.
Schmidt insisted that the problem was not too bad and that Sexton was able to play on after injuring his thumb during Saturday's defeat to England but the full extent of his injury is not yet known.
"He's gone back to Paris, he's there today and we've got some scans to be read as well and we'll get some feedback on that. By Thursday I think, when we're next out, we'll have some more information on that."
Schmidt was optimistic when asked if he felt Sexton would be ok to take on Italy in Ireland's penultimate Six Nations match against Italy on Saturday week.
"I'd predict that he should still be available for the final two games."
Schmidt also had some positive news on the fitness of Brian O'Driscoll and Peter O'Mahony but was less so when asked about Ulster winger Tommy Bowe.
