Paul Ryan scored 2-9 for Dublin who beat UCD by 2-20 to 2-15 in last night's re-arranged Walsh Cup quarter-final at Parnell Park. The defending champions led by 1-11 to 0-9 at the break thanks largely to points from Conal Keaney (3), Joey Boland and David O'Callaghan, while Ryan bagged his opening major from a 20-metre free. A mistake from goalkeeper Alan Nolan gifted Cillian Buckley a goal upon the restart but UCD were then reduced to 14 men when William Egan picked up a second yellow card.
Anthony Daly's men then hit four points without reply with three of them coming from Ryan and the Ballyboden St Enda's man added his second goal at the end of the third quarter to effectively finish the match as a contest. The students refused to give up and substitute David Higgins fired a consolation goal four minutes from the end.
