Irishman Nicholas Roche is the new leader of the Vuelta a Espana. Roche finished in third place today in the eighth stage of the race, but now holds a 17 second lead over the chasing pack.
American Chris Horner is in second place, and Moreno is in third place.
Vincenzo Nibali, who held the leaders jersey before Roche, struggled in the mountains today, and has dropped to fourth place.
It wasnÂ’t such good news for Dan Martin who had to withdraw from the race after a fall in yesterdayÂ’s stage, but he confirmed that he hasnÂ’t suffered any serious injury.
