Celtic want to to invest in Shamrock Rovers according to reports.

The Scottish side's billionaire Irish owner Dermot Desmond is behind the move to acquire a substantial stake in the Tallaght club according to the Daily Mail.

Talks will resume over the coming weeks when Shamrock Rovers majority shareholder Ray Wilson comes back from Australia. The deal was described as a "strategic alliance" by the exclusive story by Philip Quinn in the Daily Mail.

The agreement would see the Scottish champions reserving first purchase option on youth players from the Tallaght club’s burgeoning academy.

The Dublin club would be used as a place to blood young talent and give fringe players a chance to play matches that matters as it would be  a destination for the club to loan players to.

Rovers recently agreed what was said to be a club record transfer of Gavin Bazunu to Manchester City.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper was developed at the club’s academy and will join the Premier League club after he completes his Leaving Cert.
