Men's top seed Rafael Nadal has brushed aside Pablo Carreno Busta 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to move through to the fourth round at the Australian Open.

The Spaniard, who's aiming for a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam title, continues his streak of not losing to a fellow countryman.

That run now stands at 16 matches and four years, since his defeat to Fernado Verdasco in Melbourne in 2016.

"It was my best match of the tournament so far, without a doubt," the 19-time Slam winner said after the match.

"I have been serving well, starting to create damage with the forehand. Hitting serve on one shot, I think."

Nadal will face the firey Nick Kyrgios for a place in the quarter-finals after the Australian beat Karen Khachanov in five sets.

"When he plays good tennis and he shows passion for this game, he is a positive player for our tour and I want my tour bigger, not smaller," Nadal said of his match up with Kyrgios.

"When he's ready to play his best tennis and play with passion, he is one of these guys. When he's doing the other stuff, of course I don't like."

Last year's beaten US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev had little trouble in overcoming 96th-ranked Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.
