Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was quick to smother talk of a bumper pay rise for Daniel Sturridge. The Liverpool sharp shooter has notched a cool 19 goals and 7 assists while forming a dream partnership with Luis Suarez this season. Rodgers was asked if speculation regarding a new contract doubling Sturridge's current 70 grand a week deal was true.
"I think our focus is for the club now, not for any individual whether it's a player or a manager. I think in the summer there'll be a number of contracts that will be looked at, I'm sure, by the football club to retain services."
That will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans fearful of a summer swoop for their best assets. Sturridge could prove to be even hotter property if he continues his excellent form with England at the World Cup in Brazil.
The Reds will continue their assault on the Premier League title when they host a struggling Sunderland side at Anfield on Wednesday night.
