Peter O'Mahony Ruled Out Of World Cup

Ireland’s World Cup win over France has come at a colossal cost. Joe Schmidt will have to plan without Peter O’Mahony for the remainder of the tournament.

His tournament has been ended by a knee ligament injury. Team manager Mick Kearney confirmed the news on Monday morning as the sickbay was assessed in the wake of the win.

Paul O’Connell spent Sunday night in hospital after suffering significant damage to his hamstring.

He’s yet to be ruled out but that is a formality as this stage as we have likely seen the last of the iconic captain.

The swelling has yet to go down which has delayed scans that would reveal the full extent of the damage.

Johnny Sexton suffered a groin injury, he’s a doubt for the quarter-final clash with Argentina on Sunday.

A replacement for Jared Payne who was ruled out with a fractured foot last Saturday, will be announced later on Monday.

Team manager Mick Kearney gave assembled reporters an injury update at the squad's training base in Celtic Manor on Monday morning:
