One of Kerry's most experienced players will miss the summer's football championship. Peter Crowley has been ruled out for the summer after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury while playing for his club, Laune Rangers.

The 2014 All-Star suffered the injury in Laune Rangers' win over Castleisland in the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship Relegation semi-final at the weekend and a scan has confirmed that there's damage to his knee ligaments.

Crowley played at corner-back in all eight of the Kingdom's games in the League this season and has featured in 28 Championship games since making his debut in 2012.

Gavin White is close to a return from injury but former Kerry captain Billy O’Shea has told Radio Kerry that it's a blow to lose Crowley ahead of the Munster Championship.

“Peter Keane would have identified Peter as one of the senior leaders within the team. They had identified Peter in the number two role and wanted to build the defence around Peter. This injury comes at an awful time.”
