Manchester City's hopes of winning the FA Cup went up in smoke on Monday night.

Their hopes were extinguished by Will Grigg, the striker scored the winner for League One side Wigan Athletic in the 79th minute.

It was a tight and tense game on and off the pitch. There were a number of flash points during the 5th round encounter.

Pep Guardiola clashed with his opposite number Paul Cook late in the first half when Fabian Delph was shown a straight red card for a sliding challenge on Max Power.

Referee Anthony Taylor initially showed a yellow card before appearing to change his mind.

Guardiola was furious with that decision and Cook drew his ire as the pair exchanged heated words on the sideline. Their argument continued into the tunnel and the pair had to be pulled apart.

“Nothing, just ‘stay in his position’. That’s all,” said Guardiola on the incident after the game.

“Guys, if you want to ask me about football, ask me about football. Nothing happened in the tunnel, nothing happened with my colleague. Nothing.”

“It was just ‘please stay in your position’. That’s all.”

There were shocking scenes at the DW Stadium after the game. Angry City fans launched advertising boards, seats and bottles at police after the game.

On the pitch, Sergio Aguero clashed with a supporter and footage emerged of him swinging an elbow at a fan.
