Manchester United could be a whopping 15 points off the summit of the Premier League at the end of the weekend after losing at home to Newcastle for the first time in 41 years.
It finished at Old Trafford, Manchester United 0. Newcastle 1.
Yohann Cabaye scoring the only goal of the game after 61 minutes, when his low effort from inside the box took a slight nick of a United defender and nestled into the corner of the net.
Before that, the Reds were turning the screw on the visitors and looked the more likely to open the scoring. Hernandez and Januzaj both had good efforts saved by Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal.
But once the Magpies took the lead, the reigning champions seemed to fall apart. Newcastle eased through the final 30 minutes as United failed to create any real chances, other than a Van Persie header that was ruled out for a foul in the box.
United have now lost at home twice in four days.
But David Moyes said after the game that he believes his United side will be in the shake up for the title come May.
