Tallaght Stadium is set to be expanded.
Owners South Dublin County Council have approved funding to add a new South Stand to the site in time for the 2018 League of Ireland season.
The new stand, which will be built at the car park end of the stadium, will increase the capacity of Shamrock Rovers' home ground from 6,000 to 8,000.
The cost- approximately €1.9 million- will be funded by South Dublin County Council.
Independent South Dublin County Councillor Dermot Looney confirmed the news yesterday:
The new stand, at the ground's south end, will bring the official capacity of the stadium up to 8000 and will meet other UEFA requirements

When completed, the stadium will be classified as a UEFA category four standard, so will be able to host Champions League group and play-off round games.
Dundalk, who play their Europa League games at Tallaght Stadium, had to play their Champions League playoff home game against Legia Warsaw in August at the Aviva Stadium.
