Murray and Wawrinka reunited in plum French Open first round tie

Andy Murray will play Stan Wawrinka in the first round of this year's French Open.

The clay court Grand Slam gets underway in Paris on Sunday, and the meeting of two men whose combined age is a ripe 68 is the standout match of the opening round.

Murray will be playing at Roland Garros for the first time since the 2017 semi-finals where he was beaten by... Wawrinka.

Rafa Nadal's quest for a 20th career Grand Slam resumes on the site of 12 of those wins. The champion of the last three years in Paris is only seeded no.2 this year and faces Belarussian, Egor Gerasimov in the first round.

Top seed is Novak Djokovic, and he'll open his 2020 account against Sweden's Mikael Ymer.

Potentially on the horizon for Djokovic could be a quarter-final reunion with Pablo Carreno-Busta, the man to whom he defaulted at the US Open having struck a line-judge with a ball.

Men's US Open champion Dominic Thiem has been given an incredibly tricky first round tie, against a former Flushing Meadows winner Marin Cilic.

If Serena Williams is to equal Margaret Court's record of Grand Slam wins in Paris, she'll have to do it the hard way.

The 6th seed begins against her fellow American Kristie Ahn. But Victoria Azarenka - who bested Williams at the US Open - could await in round 4.

Beyond that, Elina Svitolina is a potential quarter-final opponent. While 2nd seed Simona Halep may lie in wait in the semis.

Pick of the women's first round matches sees the 9th seed Jo Konta go up against teen sensation Coco Gauff.
