Munster have been knocked out of the Heineken Champions Cup after a 40-33 loss to Toulouse at the last-16 stage.

French scrum-half Antoine Dupont went over the line twice late on for the visitors at Thomond Park to seal the win.

Two Keith Earls tires in the first half did have the hosts 16-9 up at the break.

A particularly impressive second-half performance from the French though saw them get right back into the game with a Matthis Lebel try early on after the break.

Although a Gavin Coombes try did cancel that out the French Top 14 leaders' class shone.

A try from Julien Marchand, and the two from Antoine Dupont ensured the win and keeps Toulouse's bid for a fifth European title on track.

The result sets up an all-French quarter-final trip to Clermont Auvergne next weekend after they beat Wasps by two points on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds' wait meanwhile for a Champions Cup title now stretches into a fourteenth year.
