City got off to the perfect start, thanks to a Sergio Aguero penalty after just 4 minutes.
But Francesco Totti became the oldest scorer in Champions League history as he equalised for Roma to give them a deserved draw.
It means City have only one point from their opening two games.
Bayern Munich are top their group, after they beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 yesterday.
It was better news for Chelsea last night.
They are top of Group G, after a battling 1-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
Nemanja Matic headed the winner in the 34th minute.
The game also saw John Terry make his 100th appearance in the Champions League.
