Two Manchester United fans slept overnight at Old Trafford last weekend, in a failed bid to watch the Red Devils’ Premier League draw with Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mail, the pair were part of the official stadium tour on Friday.

They broke away from the touring group, however, and hid in the toilets, where they stayed overnight on Friday, with temperatures dropping as low as 2 degrees Celsius.

They were only spotted on Saturday morning, when security went on a sweep of the stadium, hours before the Premier League tie.

They were handed over to police, but were not arrested, with United insisting there was no risk to safety.

“We realise people will go to any lengths to watch a game at Old Trafford but these people went too far”, a club spokesman told the Daily Mail.

“The fact that they and their belongings had been searched before entry means we are confident there was no risk to safety.”

The club have, however, launched an internal investigation into what happened.

The incident comes just six months after United’s home clash with Bournemouth was abandoned shortly before kick-off due to a “bomb” scare.

The “bomb” was later discovered to be a dummy device left behind on a training exercise earlier in the week.
